White Fillings

An aesthetically pleasing white filling or tooth coloured restoration is a more modern and attractive choice to the old silver amalgam fillings. Dentistry has evolved and now new materials are being used to restore teeth eg. Bonded Composite Resin.

Composite resin restorations bond to the remaining tooth structure supporting it and helping to prevent further problems. The old traditional silver amalgam fillings relied on the remaining tooth structure for support which put added stress on the tooth.

The procedure involves the dentist removing the decayed portions of the tooth structure and then bonding composite resin in layers using a specialised blue light to harden each layer. Once the composite resin is placed it is shaped and contoured to restore the tooth to its original form and function. Finally the restoration is polished to help with cleaning and prevent staining.
