Impacted Wisdom Teeth
It is common for wisdom teeth to be a problem for many people. The main reason for dental issues associated with wisdom teeth is that there usually isn‟t enough room for the tooth to adequately erupt from the gum. Wisdom teeth can also be lying sideways which can cause the wisdom tooth to become impacted, this means that they are obstructed from erupting normally and can cause pain or discomfort. When this happens it is recommended to have the wisdom teeth removed as early as possible to prevent further problems such as tooth infection, tooth abscess, cyst formation or damage to the surrounding teeth and jaw bone.
The removal of impacted wisdom teeth requires a minor surgical operation involving an incision of the overlying tissue. This treatment can be done either in-chair using a local anaesthetic or as day surgery in a hospital using general anaesthetic.
If you are experiencing discomfort with your wisdom teeth or have any swelling in the posterior regions of your mouth and would like a dentist to take an x-ray to assess any possible dental issues, contact Dental Excellence at The Gap today to book an initial assessment.
