Dental Implants

Missing teeth have the capacity to affect the functionality of your jaws, making it difficult to speak and chew properly. Advancements in dental implant techniques mean that you can now enjoy a healthy, long lasting natural-looking smile.

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that a dentist places into your jaw in place of a missing tooth or teeth. Dental implants can then be used to support a crown, bridge or removable denture. If a patient is missing a single tooth, a dental implant replaces the root and the lost natural tooth structure is restored with a crown. If the patient is missing several teeth they can be replaced using implant-supported bridges.

The dental implant will look, feel and function just like your natural teeth and no one will ever know that you have a replacement tooth.

Dental implants are actually more „tooth-saving‟ than traditional bridgework because they do not rely on neighbouring teeth for support. Since implants integrate into the structure of your bone, they help prevent bone loss and gum recession.

Dental implants cannot be used in all patient cases. A comprehensive assessment by the dentist is required to determine whether the bone structure and gum tissues are suitable for successful restoration using dental implants. Patients that smoke are poor candidates for implants as their healing capacity can be compromised.
