Bio-designed Neuro-Muscular Dentistry
Neuro-Muscular Dentistry involves providing bio-designed restorations and occlusions (the way your teeth meet) to relieve discomfort from muscle spasms and head, neck and shoulder pain caused by unbalanced contacts of teeth, misaligned teeth or worn teeth from clenching and grinding (bruxing). Crowns are often used to rebuild protective mechanisms into the bite to protect the tempromandibular joint in lateral or protrusive movements of the lower jaw.
An occlusal splint is often used to help relieve symptoms and help in the diagnosis of the cause of the problem.
Occlusal splint therapy involves fabricating a bite plane designed and fitted for patients with some types of functional temporo-mandibular joint disorders. An occlusal splint, which is made from clear acrylic, provides a stable occlusal platform for the opposing teeth stabilising the jaw and providing some protection to the joints in lateral excursive movements of the lower jaw.
